A dramatic turn has come in the Bronx case involving a young mother and her infant daughter, with authorities taking the child’s father into custody after a days-long search.
Angel Carrasco, 31, was arrested Wednesday night in connection with the incident that left 23-year-old Nathaly Ramirez unable to survive her injuries and sent her 8-month-old daughter to the hospital.
Investigators say Ramirez and her baby were pushed from a 15th-floor balcony at an apartment building on Olinville Avenue in the Allerton section of the Bronx early Tuesday morning. Police were called to the building shortly before 3:40 a.m., where they found the mother and child after the fall.
Both were rushed to Jacobi Hospital. Ramirez was later pronounced dead, while her baby girl survived and remained hospitalized.
The investigation quickly shifted toward Carrasco, who was identified as Ramirez’s former partner and the father of the infant.

Authorities began searching for him after reviewing evidence from the apartment building and surrounding area. Investigators were particularly interested in surveillance footage that reportedly showed Carrasco inside the building before he left.
His arrest came less than two days after the incident, bringing a major development to a case that had triggered an urgent search across the Bronx.
Carrasco was reportedly located at a friend’s residence in the area and taken into custody with assistance from U.S. Marshals.
But the investigation is far from over.
Authorities are now working to reconstruct exactly what happened inside the apartment before Ramirez and her daughter went over the balcony. Investigators are examining surveillance footage, witness accounts and the couple’s previous interactions as they build a timeline of the events.
There was also a troubling history between Ramirez and Carrasco.
Police had previously responded to the same apartment in January following domestic-related incidents involving the pair. In one reported confrontation, Carrasco was accused of striking Ramirez. He was later arrested in connection with another incident involving an alleged unauthorized entry into her apartment.

Those earlier encounters are now receiving renewed attention as investigators try to determine whether they provide important context for what happened Tuesday morning.
Neighbors have also described hearing an argument shortly before the fall. One resident recalled hearing Ramirez pleading with someone, adding another detail investigators may examine as they piece together the final moments before the incident.
The condition of Ramirez’s daughter has become another major focus.
The infant was initially described as being in critical condition following the fall. Her survival has been described as remarkable, with investigators considering whether Ramirez’s actions may have helped protect her child during the fall.
As the investigation developed, friends and neighbors began gathering outside the building with flowers and candles. Ramirez has been remembered as a devoted young mother whose life revolved around her daughter and the people close to her.
The emotional response has continued to grow as more details emerge about the case.
Carrasco now faces multiple charges connected to the incident, including murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, attempted manslaughter and assault.

Those are allegations, and the case will now move through the court system, where prosecutors will have to present evidence supporting the charges.
The arrest nevertheless represents a major shift in the investigation. For several days, authorities were searching for answers while Carrasco remained at large. Now, with him in custody, investigators can focus on the evidence and the unanswered questions surrounding what happened inside the apartment.
The next stage will likely center on the timeline leading up to the balcony fall, the history between the former couple and what investigators believe occurred during their final confrontation.
For Ramirez’s family and friends, however, the focus is different. They are now remembering a young mother whose life was suddenly interrupted, while hoping her baby daughter continues to recover.
The case is expected to move forward in court, with prosecutors and investigators now facing the task of establishing exactly what happened and what evidence can support their allegations.
For the Bronx community, the arrest provides one major answer — but many questions surrounding that early-morning confrontation remain.
