Just over a year ago, Gypsy Rose Blanchard was talking about Ken Urker as the person she hoped would remain by her side for the long run.
In a March 2025 interview with PEOPLE, Gypsy spoke openly about her relationship with Ken and said she absolutely saw their future together. At the time, the couple were working on their relationship through couples therapy, hoping to build stronger communication and understand each other on a deeper level.
Gypsy explained that having a therapist involved gave both of them a neutral perspective. Instead of relying only on family members for advice, she said they wanted someone who could listen to both sides and offer an honest view of their relationship.
For Gypsy, the relationship had already been through several major changes.
She and Ken first connected in 2017 while she was serving a prison sentence. Ken had reached out after watching the documentary Mommy Dead and Dearest, which explored Gypsy’s difficult childhood and her relationship with her mother.
Their connection eventually became serious. Ken proposed during a prison visit in 2018, but the two later separated.

Years later, their paths crossed again.
After Gypsy’s 2022 marriage to Ryan Scott Anderson ended, she and Ken reconnected in 2024. Their renewed relationship quickly became another important chapter in both of their lives.
The couple learned they were expecting a child and welcomed their daughter, Aurora, in December 2024.
By the time Gypsy spoke with PEOPLE in March 2025, she described their relationship as something that felt both familiar and new.
They had known each other when they were younger, but years apart had changed both of them.
Gypsy explained that reconnecting meant getting to know Ken again as adults while also rediscovering the person she had originally fallen for.
That was one reason she said their relationship required patience and communication.
Rather than presenting their relationship as perfect, Gypsy acknowledged that they were still learning how to navigate life together.
The couple had a young daughter, new responsibilities and years of experiences behind them. Couples therapy became part of that process as they worked through their differences and tried to create a stronger foundation for their family.
Gypsy also spoke warmly about watching Ken become a father.
She described seeing him grow into that role as especially meaningful because they had first met when they were both much younger.
Their daughter Aurora became the center of a new chapter for the couple.

But on October 1, 2026, the story changed unexpectedly.
Ken was found unresponsive at a home in Raceland, Louisiana, on his 34th birthday, according to the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office and reports from PEOPLE. Deputies responded to the residence at approximately 6:15 p.m., and authorities said he was found unresponsive when they arrived. The investigation remains ongoing.
Gypsy had reportedly sent Ken a birthday message earlier that day but did not receive a response. A family member later found him at the Louisiana residence.
Following the news, Gypsy spoke publicly about the loss and described Ken as an important part of her life and the father of their daughter.
She said she believed an overdose may have been involved, but also made clear that she did not know whether it was intentional. She said Ken had not been in a good state of mind recently.
Authorities have not publicly established a final cause or circumstance, and the investigation remains ongoing.
Gypsy also addressed another part of Ken’s recent life: the intense attention surrounding their relationship online.
In her statement, she said Ken had faced what she described as relentless cyberbullying across social media platforms. She asked people to remember that there is a real person behind every screen, headline and comment.
Her message also focused on their daughter.
Gypsy said Ken loved Aurora deeply and that she wanted their daughter to grow up knowing who her father was beyond the opinions strangers may have formed online.

That makes Gypsy’s comments from 2025 especially striking in hindsight.
At that time, she was not describing a relationship that existed only in the public eye. She was talking about two people trying to understand each other again after years apart, while raising a young child and planning what they hoped would be a lasting future.
She called Ken her “forever” and spoke about wanting to continue improving their relationship.
More than a year later, those words have taken on a very different meaning.
Their story had already included a first meeting, an engagement, a separation, a reunion, marriage, a new relationship and the arrival of their daughter.
Now, Gypsy is facing another chapter while raising Aurora and grieving the father of her child.
For the moment, many questions surrounding Ken’s final hours remain unanswered.
Authorities are continuing their investigation, and further information could clarify what happened at the Louisiana residence.
For Gypsy, however, the immediate focus appears to be on her daughter, her family and remembering Ken for the role he played in their lives.
A relationship that once seemed to be beginning again had become a family story — and the memories Gypsy shared about their future together in 2025 now offer a glimpse into how much that relationship meant to her before everything changed.
